El Diario mexicano "Rotativo" publico sobre el disco de AFI "Crash love" en el sector de música:
“Crash love”, el mejor disco de AFI
México, 20 Sep 09 (EL UNIVERSAL).- Orgulloso y más que satisfecho es como se siente Davey Havok, líder de la banda estadounidense AFI, tras superar el reto de cambiar de productor cuando ya estaba empezada la grabación de su más reciente disco y ahora lanzar lo que sin titubeo alguno calificó como el mejor disco en los 18 años de existencia de la agrupación.
En entrevista con KIOSKO, se le menciona que eso bien podría ser un cliché. No obstante, Davey da sus razones, entre ellas experimentar una transición musical que inició con el hardcore punk, el horror punk, hasta el hardcore puro y ahora, con "Crash love", con un sonido verdaderamente rocker.
"Nunca antes había estado más feliz con las letras de las canciones, las melodías. Sentía que el resultado era apremiante y duradero debido a la calidad de las canciones; es algo que no había hecho antes. No había disfrutado tanto hacer un disco, como en éste. Es emocionante porque logramos esto después de 18 años de la creación de la banda", manifiesta el músico de Nueva York.

Davey Havok tuvo una entrevista con la revista "Bombshellzine"
First of all, congratulations on the upcoming release of ‘Crash Love’. I had the privilege of listening to it a few weeks ago and review it and honestly haven’t been so excited about new AFI songs in a long time. How does it feel to be so close to the impending release?
It’s very exciting for me. I really can’t wait for it to come out, and thank you, I’m glad you like what you’ve heard. Um, I’ve really never been more proud of an AFI record, so I’m really, really excited to have it released and have it available for people to enjoy. I’m really looking forward to it.
Does it feel like the calm before the storm at the moment? Are you guys doing anything in particular for the build up? Or are you just taking it easy?
Um, the storm has already started (laughs). Ah, we’ve been doing a lot of physical set up that sort of happens before a record comes out, a lot of interviews and photo shoots and working on video treatments and right now I’m in Amsterdam, actually. We’re over here doing press and a few festival shows and as soon as we get back we’re probably going to shoot a video, although I don’t know what that is going to be and I’m sure we’ll continue with such madness until the record begins, well, comes out!
Fair enough. What was the writing process like? I noticed that the album has a central theme being that of celebrity culture, did you have the idea from the get go, or was that something that evolved during your time in the studio?
Um, the themes in the record were what were really pressing on me at the time, and I still very, ah, I think are currently poignant for me, and it wasn’t something that I really set out to do, but I really think that the themes of, um.. false personas, misconceptions, destructive relationships, entitlement, narcissism.. all of that that runs through the record is affecting culture very greatly and I think because of that, because of the effect of those situations in relationships and lack thereof, I think it effects art culture and as a result affects me, and what affects me I write about! (laughs)
Was it aimed at AFI fans in particular, the general public or was it just cathartic to write about?
Um, I mean really it’s a manner of catharsis for me, and also I mean there is a hope in writing about these things that it will bring some awareness about what’s going on and how people treat one another and how people are reacting to certain relationships and events and hopefully that awareness can bring change.
I noticed that Crash Love is more of a pure rock CD compared to something like Decemberunderground that had a little bit more of an electronic influence, do you think that having the Blaqk Audio record finally come out, did that have an effect on this change in direction?
I think it really did. It wasn’t something that I had expected, and you know when we were doing Blaqk Audio and people were asking us do you think, well, they expected the next AFI record to go one of two ways, either becoming more like Blaqk Audio or, well, less like Blaqk Audio and I was always saying you know that it won’t effect AFI at all, it doesn’t really have anything to do with it. In reality, after we had finished recording, releasing and then touring on Blaqk Audio after the Decemberunderground tour, when we sat down to being writing AFI, and we were sitting there, Jade and I were sitting in front of each other and he had a guitar and we were playing rock again. It was very refreshing and was inspirational just to be playing rock again, and in that respect I think yes; having our Blaqk Audio band for our passion for electronica ended up polarising our interests and I think with AFI, naturally pushed it in a more rock direction.
There was a fair amount of excitement generated on the AFI forums when the Begin Transmission contest was announced. Who came up with the idea? And how did the fans react?
The fans were just… really, really, really happy about the experience and especially the fans that we chose to come down and sing on the record. It was really nice for everyone to be able to share that together, and to meet those fans and sing with them, and to check out the studio and see where we work and hang out with us a little bit, um, it would have been great if we were able to do it world wide.. and actually our first submission was a GREAT submission from an Australian guy! Oh really?
Yeah, he was the very first person to submit, and it was a fantastic submission. I remember myself and Kristen who is our day to day manager saying, “oh! I wished we could have picked him!” (laughs), so, yeah.. it was a really great event. Was it
hard to pick the videos? I actually saw this morning a video of the fans getting the chance to meet you for the first time, and it seemed like such an overwhelming experience for some of them.. I think I remember Jade saying that he was told to pick a couple of videos, and came back with 17!
It was very difficult. The whole time I was going I would hold submissions aside and put them in a folder and um, you know for the future when I knew I would have to decide.. and the folder was just packed! It was like you know.. probably close to 60 or 70.. and it was really hard because there were so many great submissions and so many touching submissions and very creative submissions that were you know, great contenders and so many seemingly wonderful people. It was a hard decision to make.. very difficult! For all of us.

Hunrter Burgan en Peta 2
Peta 2 tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Hunter Buegan sobre su nuevo zapato "Macbeth" y sobre el nuevo disco "Crash love"
We hear that you are Macbeth's new vegan ambassador for 2009. How did the partnership come about?
I've been working with Macbeth for a while now, and I feel like I'm the person to best represent veganism for the company. Either that or I'm just totally forcing myself on them.
Why was it important for you to design an all-vegan shoe, even down to the glue used?
First off, have you ever worn a pair of shoes without glue? They just fall apart. So, if they are going to use glue, it's going to have to be vegan glue. You know, animals don't wear shoes with human glue—it's just disrespectful.
At what moment did you decide that being vegan is the best choice for you and for animals?
Well, I sat down with the animals …. No, actually I've been vegetarian for 16 years and vegan for eight, and from the moment that I realized that you can be vegetarian, I immediately decided that that's what I wanted to do. It just made the most sense to me. It was the most conscientious choice that I could make.
I think that back in 1992, especially where I grew up, it was certainly not easy to be vegan. Now, I think it is so simple. The world has definitely become more vegan-friendly, and now it would just be silly not to be vegan.
Was there a band that influenced you or a video that you saw that triggered it? Or did it just sort of happen?
No, I grew up in a really small, isolated town, and my exposure to things was very limited. I didn't even know what vegan meant until 1994, at which point I was already vegetarian. So naturally, I was very curious about it. I had two friends who were vegan, and they weren't very preachy—which prevented me from learning from them, because they weren't going to explain anything. The one thing that they did provide, though, was a sense that this is a lifestyle you can choose that isn't going to be detrimental to your health. Later, as I was exposed to more bands and whatnot, I continued to learn and read more about it, but there was never a certain band that influenced that.
My transition from being vegetarian into being vegan was very smooth. It took about eight years. In the summer of 2000, I realized, "Hey, wait a second. I can do this; why aren't I doing this?" Let me just say that being in a band with Davey and also touring with bands like Good Riddance showed me, "You can do this; you aren't going to get sick and die."
Being on tour with AFI and Hunter Revenge has given you the opportunity to travel to every major city in the world. In your opinion, what city is the most vegan-friendly?
I would have to say New York. You know, New York has an amazing variety of restaurants and stores. Los Angeles does too, but many people in Southern California have the impression that veganism is just a diet fad: "Oh, vegan, is that the new trend? Should we check that out? Maybe it's raw? I don't know." Some people do not take it seriously. Whereas in New York it's a no-nonsense approach. So I'm going to say New York.
Our "Meat's Not Green" campaign focuses on a report from the U.N. that says factory farming of livestock is the number one cause of climate change and produces more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation industry combined. Do you have any thoughts on this?
A lot of people, I think, just simply don't know the facts, or are just unwilling to be open to the idea that factory farming is such a major contributor. So, it's good!

Bueno aca les adelanto las descripciones de las canciones
“Torch Song”
Comienza a sonar muy extraña antes de lanzarse a una guitarra de balanceo y tambores alimentado. Esto se transforma en sonido bastante épica que es imitado en el coro, que cuenta con un fuerte respaldo coral que está seguro de ser replicado por los fans AFI en un entorno vivo. Esta rezuena en toda la canción con la clase y marcó como uno de los temas más potentes. Davey suena absolutamente fantástico. Su grito algo cuestionable desde los últimos años, mientras que él ofrece una interpretación vocal impecable. Los versos pueden tener un leve 'metal' de calidad para ellos. Trabajo de guitarra de Jade es de nuevo, impecable. Se las arregla para crear el sonido perfecto para la canción.
“Beautiful Thieves”
Es una canción lenta con una línea de bajo de conducción que se desarrolla y se acumula en un gran coro con la voz de más apoyo que los aficionados a la vuelta. Esta canción parece un poco más morbosa con Davey cuestionar su mortalidad. Se plantea una serie de preguntas que de seguro para modificar la fibra sensible del oyente. La sencillez de la poesía te deja muy venerable y posiblemente, no esperaba esa sección central de gran alcance. La canción termina en la misma manera que la apertura. Lento y hermoso.
“End Transmission”
Tiene una ligera 80's a la introducción que es evidente en toda la canción completa. Hay piano presente a través de una gran parte de lo que es muy raro que los AFI, Que se funde muy bien con el ritmo vibrante, ya está en un nivel muy superior al de Decemberunderground.
“Too Shy To Scream”
El inicio es inmediatamente me recordó a "Marilyn Manson The Beautiful People ". Es muy potente, con algunos muy bien programado palmas en el fondo. Davey campanas con voz potente y limpia que ver la canción se desarrollan en un número melódico agradable. El segundo verso de la bienvenida de nuevo Manson-con la guitarra. Esta canción es muy pegadiza.
“Veronica Sawyer Smokes”
(Una referencia a la película de culto "Heathers"?) No es tan fuerte e importante como las otras pistas hasta este punto. A las 2:44, es también el más breve canción en el cd.
“Ok, I Feel Better Now”
es otro número épica. Se inicia con algunas slowish simple rasgueo de la guitarra, y Davey derramando su corazón, cantando, "I had felt elation before all sensation died”. Adam Hunter, y tomar la canción a un nuevo nivel en que se basa en algo simple en un gran coro. La canción es bastante triste, habla de angustia potenciales que podrían estar relacionados con el tema general del álbum, pero la letra sugiere que hay algo más oculto bajo la superficie. La parte final de la canción tiene un ligero "Missing Frame" vibra a la misma (en términos de los coros y percusión).
“Medicate”
Éste se abre con una guitarra muy épica que te hiera en la cara cuando Adán y Hunter participar, con Davey campanadas con su marca "oh!", Al igual que en el comienzo de "This Celluloid Dream '. Esta canción es pesada. No en el sentido de "Machine Head", pero es seguro para crear una escena en cualquier concierto de AFI viene. La apertura y el primer verso "chuy". La canción se ralentiza en el puente, dejando a Davey muy vulnerable y emocional, con ligeras reminiscencias de algo de electrónica en el fondo que son tan sutiles que cabe en pie. Después de chorro de nuevo en el coro, Jade muestra su talento con un solo de guitarra ardiente que hace que la canción que mucho más impresionante.
“I Am Trying Very Hard To Be Here”
Ganadores del concurso de la práctica de los coros para el coro con la banda. La canción comienza con lo que sólo puedo describir como un riff de 'rock sucio "que realmente marca la pauta para este número de mal humor. El coro se graba en tu mente con el canto del video, "Flash Flash, crash love! "No estamos accesorios, rápido ahora, rápido! Disfruta de nuestras imágenes". El tema del álbum podría sugerir esta es una canción destinada a los paparazzi, y con uno de los incidentes cada vez más evidente, la muerte de la princesa Diana. La guitarra realmente se destaca en esta pista. Se le da un ambiente fantástico blues rock, AFI que nunca han jugado como antes.
“Sacrilege”
La batería y bajo en realidad es la unidad de esta pista. Davey pronuncia un sermón muy apasionado de todo tipo. Al igual que con "Smile" en 2000 "The Art of Drowning", hay algo en la sociedad que realmente decepciona, y él quiere asegurarse de que la gente sepa al respecto a pesar de su sombría perspectiva sugiere que todos debemos "dejar morir nuestra fe". El ritmo de la canción es muy coherente en todo, sólo un poco lento en el puente y justo después de un solo de guitarra muy impresionante de Jade. El tema recoge de nuevo para terminar con una nota fuerte.
“Darling, I Want To Destroy You”
Problemas de arranque es otro número que se basa en el coro. La guitarra se parece un poco partes de "Summer Shudder" desde el CD anterior, pero sólo por un momento. Los versos no estaría fuera de lugar en un registro MGMT con un ambiente muy similar a un par de canciones fuera de su álbum debut. Esta canción está claramente escrito acerca de alguien cercano a Davey, que difiere de las anteriores canciones de AFI. La mayoría de las letras de Davey siguen siendo bastante vaga, dejando al oyente la capacidad de desarrollar su propia interpretación, mientras que esta canción es muy específica. En comparación con las otras pistas, este es muy simple, posiblemente un poco similar a "Endlessly, She Said". No es tan fuerte, pero sigue siendo bastante impresionante.
“Cold Hands”
sentía como un ‘vamped up’ version of Let It Be Broke, pero eso es lo más cerca AFI llegar a sus días de hardcore East Bay (si es que aun era la intención. Este es otro número con un riff de guitarra fuerte que establezca el tono. Se ha mencionado en algunas entrevistas que la banda eran muy conscientes de escribir un disco de guitarra orientado, y realmente se muestra en temas como éste. Me parece a nuestro stand mucho más después en lo de 'Decemberunderground'. La guitarra toma un ligero paso atrás en el primer verso, cuando Davey empieza a cantar, pero el segundo que aparece una abertura, se afirma que la autoridad de nuevo. La segunda mitad de la primera estrofa, todo lo ve junto mallado muy poderosa. AFI tienen una tendencia muy impresionante para que sus canciones construyan y construyan poco a poco antes de llegar al clímax, que nunca deja de decepcionar. "Cold Hands" es un ejemplo perfecto de esto. Este es otro tema de rock muy impresionante.
“It Was Mine”
Es una canción más lenta y de mal humor con temas muy simular "a Nine Inch Nail's, con Davey señalando, No hables, no digas nada. Han estado grabando todo lo que decimos desde hace años ". Esta parece ser otra excavación en el carácter temporal y extrañas de cultura de la celebridad. Se las arregla para crear un poco de poder en el coro, sin dejar de ser bastante sombrío. Toda la pista está llena de ansiedad, así como la aceptación. Como panorama muy sombrío de Trent Reznor para el futuro, Davey ha conseguido la pluma algunas opiniones bastante inquietante sobre cómo tratar a la fama pública, y cómo todo lo que realmente es inconstante, una vez el centro de atención se oscurece un poco.
